Presentation of the program
The Medicine Program of the Navarra University Foundation, UNINAVARRA, attached to the School of Health Sciences, has its roots in the vision of the Provisional Superior Council, which, through Agreement 001 of 2011, gave rise to this academic initiative. Its existence was formalized with the granting of its qualified registration by the Ministry of National Education, reflected in Resolution 16098 of November 14, 2013 and began its academic activities in the first semester of 2014 with its first cohort.
The trajectory and commitment of our program are reaffirmed with the recent renewal of its registration, as certified by Resolution 006816 of April 26, 2023, where the Ministry of National Education (MEN) renewed the qualified registration of the Medicine program attached to the Faculty of Health Sciences of the University Foundation Navarra - UNINAVARRA for seven years, classroom mode, 287 credits, 12 semesters; which shows that, to date, the program has more than 9 years of continuous operation.
The Medicine program, linked to the institutional philosophy of the Navarra University Foundation - UNINAVARRA, is based on the promotion of primary health care and scientific research. Our purpose is the comprehensive training of medical professionals, who assume with critical spirit the actions of promotion, conservation and recovery of health, and human development of the region with globalized projection within the framework of ethics, social responsibility and sustainable development, from a comprehensive and patient-centered perspective. Through an approach supported by scientific evidence, we encourage research and innovation in the medical field, in order to constantly improve the quality of care and contribute to the advancement of science and medicine. We aspire for our graduates to be leaders in their field, capable of addressing healthcare challenges with ethics, social responsibility, and a deep commitment to the well-being of the communities they serve.
The Medicine Program of the University Foundation of Navarra - UNINAVARRA is aligned with the institutional vision of offering high quality training. Our goal is for the program to be recognized for its ability to comprehensively train medical professionals, emphasizing primary health care and fostering a creative attitude that allows them to generate their own models and intervention schemes. This will contribute to strengthening health at the community, regional, national and international levels. Graduates of the Navarra University Foundation will stand out for their social leadership in undertaking actions that improve the health of communities and for the human quality of the medical services they provide. Our commitment is to achieve regional and national recognition as a reference of academic and professional excellence in the field of medicine. We aspire to lead the formation of highly competent, ethical physicians committed to serving society.
 Admission requirements
- Personal profile, where personality traits of the applicants are evaluated to verify affinity with the entrance profile of each program (interview by a psychologist).
- Attitudinal profile, where the affinity between the student and the formative requirements of the program will be determined (interview by the program director).
- Psychological profile, evaluated from a clinical perspective in order to ensure the affinity and stability of this profile in each student with the career to be pursued.
- Intellectual profile, where the degree of knowledge is evaluated. The admission exam and the State Tests of Aptitude and Knowledge - State Exam for Entrance to Higher Education "Saber 11" of the Colombian Institute for the Promotion of Higher Education (ICFES) are taken into account.
Applicant Profile
General admission profile and admission requirements:
Admission to UNINAVARRA is free and voluntary, by enrollment processes of applicants according to their vocation. Admission to UNINAVARRA is based on three profiles:
- Personal profile, where personality traits of the applicants are evaluated to verify affinity with the entrance profile of each program.
- Intellectual profile, where the degree of knowledge is evaluated and, based on the State Tests of Aptitude and Knowledge of the Colombian Institute for the Promotion of Higher Education (ICFES), minimum admission scores will be established for each program.
- Attitudinal profile, determined in interview processes in which the program director will determine the affinity between the student and the formative requirements of the program. In the case of Health Sciences, psychometric personality tests will be specifically applied to evaluate the psychological profile from a clinical perspective, in order to ensure the affinity and stability of this profile in each student with the career to be pursued.
Graduate profile
The training purposes in the Medicine program comply with what is established in the University Educational Project of UNINAVARRA, which promotes the constructivist approach based on autonomous learning and centered on the student, since it aims to attract, enamored, passionate, retain and form integrally, thus ensuring the success of the student's life project. It is based on innovative teaching-learning strategies that promote in the student restlessness and desire to learn, motivating him/her to give more of him/herself.
UNINAVARRA graduates are critical and proactive. They propose solutions to specific problems by applying science and technology. They are fully aware of the implications of their profession, and their ethical vision is based on deontological training and classroom experience. Seeks to understand social phenomena as actions that guide the destinies of their community, on which they must have a position and an opinion that can and must be heard.
The profile of the UNINAVARRA graduate is a conjunction of three fundamental elements for the development of the human being: personal, professional and occupational profile:
- As a person, the UNINAVARRA graduate will be an integral human being, aware of his or her life project and sensitive to the problems of society, being an actor in the transformation.
- As a professional, he understands that everything he has learned in his training has a clear and specific utility in the development of his profession.
- On the occupational side, in an objective and proven way, he/she is qualified in a series of competencies recognized by the productive-labor sector. He/she will have the ability to work in a team.
The UNINAVARRA graduate physician is a health professional with comprehensive training that understands the biopsychosocial model, committed to his or her community and develops the following potentialities:
- Continuous self-training.
- Extensive theoretical and practical knowledge of medicine.
- Patient, family and community communication with the health care team.
- Intervention strategies at the community level, in order to promote healthy lifestyles, encouraging self-care and the formation of social support networks.
- The interdisciplinary professional practice of the health team working with and for the community.
- Research training as the driving force of their professional training.
- Lead in the formulation of innovative policies and strategies based on research processes, which will be conceived with a managerial vision that integrates technical-administrative aspects with elements of quality, humanization and bioethics.
- Sense of justice, equity and the founding values of medical practice.
- Diagnose, treat, control and rehabilitate, through the medical act, the pathology to be treated at the level at which it acts, according to the three levels of care.
- Carry out the referral of patients whose condition requires more complex treatments or the use of technological resources that are lacking in their level of work.
- Treat patients as individuals, establishing a humane and ethical relationship with them.
- To treat the human being taking into account the biopsychosocial aspects that will determine his or her health situation.
- Skills to develop prevention and health promotion programs.
- Promote in their community solutions in accordance with the health problems and the factors that generate them, stimulating schemes corresponding to their own reality.
- Participate in epidemiological, clinical, administrative and educational research projects.
Professional profileÂ
UNINAVARRA graduates will be able to work in the following scenarios:
- Assistance: As a physician in medical-surgical areas, primary health care, outpatient medical consultation activities, emergency services, hospitalization services, assistant in surgical areas, care of obstetric patients and care in recovery, intermediate care and intensive care units of health care institutions, as well as in other health care centers, such as nursing homes and work centers, among others, for comprehensive health care to individuals, families and communities.
- Management, public health and health administration: Graduates can work in the planning, direction and execution of public health plans at the local and regional level, carrying out promotion and prevention activities as components of primary health care, administering health services and developing plans of control agencies in health areas within the framework of the General System of Social Security in Health of Colombia.
- Teaching: As a teacher or supervisor of educational processes related to his or her professional practice.
- Research: As a participant in research projects in Health Sciences. The integral formation of medical professionals, who assume with critical spirit the actions of promotion, conservation, recovery of health and human development of the region with global projection within the framework of ethics, social responsibility and sustainable development.
