Applicant Profile

To enter the postgraduate program, the applicant must:

• To have studied medicine and accredit a medical degree as a graduate of a higher education institution recognized by the Ministry of National Education or a foreign one recognized by the competent authority of the country of origin, in the latter case, the degree must be validated by the Ministry of National Education in Colombia as a Medical Doctor.
• To have complied with the legal requirement of mandatory social service according to the law, which must be accredited with the corresponding Resolution.

In addition, they must comply with the following general requirements by submitting the following documents:

• Registration form duly completed.
• Receipt evidencing payment of registration fees.
• Photocopy of the identity document (Citizenship card/foreigners card or passport).
• If you are not Colombian you must provide a Student or Resident Visa.
• Resume with supports, including undergraduate transcripts incorporating internship (medical)

The Internal Medicine Specialist, graduated from UNINAVARRA will be characterized as an ethical, responsible, suitable person, with knowledge and capacity to identify and intervene the diseases or pathologies of adult patients in order to improve their quality of life.

The personal, specialist and occupational profile of the graduate of the Internal Medicine specialization program is justified at a social, economic and technological level, taking into account the following:

• As a person, he is an integral human being, critical, proactive, with an autonomous life project, committed to the needs of the community being an actor in the transformation of this, enterprising and with a view to personal and social growth; he is fully aware of the implications of his specialty and his ethical vision is based on deontological training and experience in the classroom and in the practice scenario.
• The above allows him to develop different responsibilities, among which are: Participate in the formulation, design, organization, execution and control of plans and programs of the internal area of its competence; Coordinate, promote and participate in studies and research to improve the provision of services in its charge and the timely fulfillment of plans, programs and projects, as well as the execution and optimal use of available resources; Manage, control and evaluate the development of programs, projects and activities of the area; Propose and implement processes, procedures, methods and instruments required to improve the provision of services in its charge, among others.
• As a Specialist, he understands that everything he has learned in his training has a clear and specific utility in the development of his specialty; his contributions in a scientific community contribute to the improvement in the quality of life of the people of his region and nation, always with a view to prevent and intervene in the integral health of adults.

Professional profile

Taking up the above, the Professional Profile of the Specialist in Internal Medicine of UNINAVARRA, in accordance with the curricular structure and the name of the postgraduate course, will be characterized by being a qualified, ethical and integral professional, with the capacity to promote and practice at the health care level actions of prevention, promotion, timely diagnosis, adequate treatment and rehabilitation of the adult patient in all its bio-psycho-social components, with emphasis on a humanized medical practice, adequate treatment and rehabilitation of adult patients in all their bio-psycho-social components, with emphasis on a humanized medical practice, having the ability to perform in the in-hospital, outpatient and home environments in the management of their diseases, always using updated scientific information and adjusted to the social, cultural and economic conditions of the country.

Likewise, in the administrative field, he/she will have knowledge of the existing health systems to design, carry out and evaluate health care programs.

At the research and teaching levels, he/she will apply, respectively, the tools of critical appraisal of updated medical literature, applying the scientific method in the resolution of clinical problems in contact with Evidence Based Medicine (EBM) and the pedagogical and didactic techniques to interact with the environment in which he/she works, providing education to his/her patients and performing in medical teaching.

Occupational profile

It derives from its main values and capabilities, in particular its integrative vision and its polyvalence, thus focusing on the care of the multi-pathological and multi-symptomatic patient, on the patient with difficult diagnosis, as well as on the care of all prevalent diseases of adults (men and women) in the hospital or clinical setting.

In harmony with the graduate and professional profiles, the Internal Medicine Specialist graduated from UNINAVARRA will be able to perform in the following work environments:

• Clinical: As a specialist physician in institutions providing health services at different levels of complexity. He/she will be trained to diagnose, treat and prevent adult pathologies.
• Administrative: Will have the capacity to structure and direct Internal Medicine services, based on work plans, strategies and quality processes.
• Research: Will be able to carry out research projects as principal investigator or co-investigator, using epidemiology and public health as fundamental bases.
• Teaching: Will have pedagogical skills to practice teaching with his/her patients and during professional practice, will support the learning process of medical students, interns and residents who are rotating through the unit where he/she is labor related.

The institution will give residents the opportunity to strengthen their competencies in pedagogy and didactics through the Specialization in University Teaching. All students must take the introductory course (credit 0) to the specialization called Medical Education and Communication oriented to strengthen the communicative and pedagogical competencies.

UNINAVARRA presente en el VI Curso Formativo ACMI de Residentes en Medicina Interna

Los días 27, 28 y 29 de marzo de 2025, se llevó a cabo en la ciudad de Neiva, en las instalaciones de Comfamiliar Club Los Lagos, el VI Curso Formativo ACMI para Residentes en Medicina Interna, un evento académico de gran relevancia nacional, organizado por la Asociación Colombiana de Medicina Interna (ACMI).

Este encuentro, que hace parte de la estrategia de ACMI para fortalecer el protagonismo de los programas de formación en Medicina Interna en Colombia, tuvo como propósito principal ofrecer un espacio para la integración, profundización, visibilización y reflexión en torno a la formación en competencias de los futuros internistas del país.

El evento contó con la participación activa de coordinadores de programas de especialización, docentes de la especialidad y residentes, quienes representaron a sus instituciones en diversas actividades académicas y formativas. Nos complace destacar la representación de la Fundación Universitaria Navarra – UNINAVARRA, a través del Dr. Homero Luis Puello, coordinador de la Especialización en Medicina Interna, y un residente del programa, quienes participaron como conferencistas en el tema:

“Continuo cardio reno metabólico, la visión del internista”, contribuyendo con una valiosa perspectiva clínica y académica desde nuestra institución.La participación del Programa de medicina interna UNINAVARRA en este tipo de eventos ratifica el compromiso institucional con la excelencia académica, el desarrollo profesional y la formación integral del talento humano en salud.

Destacada participación de residentes UNINAVARRA en el XXX Congreso ACMI ACP 2025

Entre el 30 de julio y el 2 de agosto de 2025, se llevó a cabo en el Centro de Eventos Puerta de Oro, en Barranquilla (Colombia), el XXX Congreso ACMI ACP, considerado el evento científico más importante de la medicina interna colombiana en este año. La cita reunió a más de 2.940 participantes y contó con la intervención de más de 190 conferencistas, entre ellos más de 40 expertos internacionales provenientes de 13 países invitados: Argentina, Bolivia, España, Estados Unidos, Honduras, México, Panamá, Paraguay, Perú, República Checa, República Dominicana, Uruguay y Venezuela.

En este importante escenario académico, los residentes de Medicina Interna de la Fundación Universitaria Navarra – UNINAVARRA tuvieron una participación sobresaliente. Dos de ellos realizaron una ponencia oral presentando el protocolo de atención para pacientes hospitalizados por fiebre amarilla, elaborado por el Hospital Federico Lleras Acosta de Ibagué, documento del cual son coautores.

Asimismo, otros cuatro residentes presentaron pósters con casos clínicos, contribuyendo con su conocimiento y experiencia al intercambio académico del congreso. Este reconocimiento y visibilidad en un espacio de alto nivel científico representa un logro significativo para nuestro naciente programa de Especialización en Medicina Interna y refleja el compromiso de UNINAVARRA con la excelencia académica y la formación integral de sus especialistas.

INDUCTION OF RESIDENTS IN THE FIRST COHORT SPECIALIZATION IN INTERNAL MEDICINE

On January 10, 2025, at 8:00 am, the induction day was held for the residents of the I cohort of the specialization in internal medicine, which is an event that is held only once a year and its purpose is to introduce the new resident students to university life, to know their duties, rights, regulations and the academic and administrative services offered by UNINAVARRA to train medical specialists with the ability to address the patient's diseases in a comprehensive manner and, therefore, to see the human being holistically. The objective of this medical-surgical postgraduate program is the promotion and prevention, study, diagnosis and treatment of adult diseases, training internists who develop their activity in both inpatient and outpatient settings, within the legal framework established for their professional practice.

We have an Internationalization Policy "UNINAVARRA FACING THE WORLD"which aims to offer the academic community a bridge between the local environment and the globalized world. Through its lines of action, it provides opportunities for interaction with the national and international environment in classroom and online mode, where you can live training experiences in other contexts, interact with people from different cultures, learn about the global dynamics and its social, cultural, economic, environmental changes, among others; enhance your career with national and international projection and strengthen your training as a global professional and citizen of the world.

- Academic Mobility Management: Student exchange opportunities during one or two academic periods throughout the development of the student's academic program in different types of mobility such as: academic exchange (taking subjects), short course, internship, practicum, medical rotation, mission, research stay, observership and degree modalities. Teaching mobility as national and foreign visiting professors in your classroom.
- Multiculturalism and Multilingualism Management: Activities that contribute to the development of intercultural competencies and communicative competence in a foreign language, mainly English as a universal language.
