An experience that strengthens professional training and contributes to the industrial development of the Surcolombian region In an environment where academic training requires a real connection with industry, the Industrial Engineering Program of the Navarra University Foundation - UNINAVARRA continues to bet on meaningful experiences that allow its students to learn, analyze and actively participate in the country's production processes. On this occasion, the future engineers participated in a guided academic visit to Estufas Ecoeficientes METALCOF S.A.S., a leading company in sustainable energy solutions with high social impact in the Surcolombiana region.
The purpose of this activity was clear: to strengthen the academic and professional training of the students through direct contact with a real industrial environment, where they could observe and understand how innovation, operational efficiency, environmental responsibility and quality are integrated into a production process.
During the tour, students learned about the key stages of the eco-efficient stove manufacturing process, from technical design to assembly and quality control, applying in a practical way concepts seen in subjects such as industrial processes, operations management, ergonomics and sustainability.
The visit allowed participants to develop key skills such as critical observation, technical decision-making, analysis of production processes and identification of opportunities for improvement, essential elements for their future professional performance.
In addition, METALCOF S.A.S. stood out as an exemplary case study on how small and medium-sized companies can innovate, produce with quality and at the same time generate a positive impact on vulnerable communities, promoting clean technologies and reducing polluting emissions.
The company, located in the heart of Huila, represents a model of industrial development with social and environmental responsibility, aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and with the vision of a more competitive and sustainable Surcolombian region. This type of interaction with the productive sector not only enriches the educational experience, but also strengthens the ties between academia and local industry, consolidating an ecosystem of innovation, training and regional development.
"These visits are fundamental to our mission as an academic program. They not only bring students closer to the real world of industrial engineering, but also allow us to contribute to the productive fabric of our region," said the director of UNINAVARRA's Industrial Engineering program, Sergio Andres Castañeda Mendez.
Activities such as the visit to METALCOF S.A.S. reflect UNINAVARRA's commitment to a relevant, experiential education oriented to the real needs of the environment. They are also an example of how the university prepares future industrial engineers not only to face the technical challenges of the present, but also to lead with social responsibility and a transformative vision.
From the engineering that is taught to the engineering that is lived in the field, UNINAVARRA reaffirms its commitment to excellence, innovation and regional development.
