UNINAVARRA present at the XXXI Colombian Congress of Cardiology and Cardiovascular Surgery

The Navarra University Foundation - UNINAVARRA continues to consolidate its presence in high-level academic scenarios. On this occasion, Dr. Homero Luis Puello Galarcio, coordinator of the Specialization in Internal Medicine of UNINAVARRA, participated as a speaker at the XXXI Colombian Congress of Cardiology and Cardiovascular Surgery, held from February 26 to 28, 2026 at the Convention Center of the Hotel Las Americas, in Cartagena de Indias.

This congress, organized by the Colombian Society of Cardiology, is considered the most important event in the country in this area of medicine,
bringing together national and international experts in clinical cardiology, interventional cardiology, electrophysiology and pediatric cardiology.

Outstanding academic participation

Dr. Puello Galarcio participated as a speaker with the conference entitled:

“Evidence for Shingles Vaccination as a Cardiovascular Prevention Strategy.”

During his speech, he highlighted recent scientific advances that demonstrate the fundamental role of vaccination not only in the prevention of infectious diseases, but also in the reduction of cardiovascular events. In particular, he highlighted the solid evidence on the influenza vaccine, as well as emerging studies related to vaccines against pneumococcus, respiratory syncytial virus, among others.

“The objective is to raise awareness in the medical community about the importance of vaccination as a comprehensive prevention strategy, which can have a significant impact on the reduction of events such as thrombosis or cardiovascular mortality,” said the specialist.

A space for medical updating and scientific reinforcement

The congress was attended by speakers from countries such as the United States, Mexico and Argentina, in addition to experts from different regions of Colombia, consolidating itself as a scenario of academic exchange of international scope.

For Dr. Puello Galarcio, these events are fundamental for professional updating: “The congresses allow us to learn about the most recent advances in treatments, medications and clinical guidelines, which contributes to improving decision making in patient care.

He also highlighted the value of these meetings in the strengthening of academic and scientific networks, as well as in the construction of joint initiatives between different medical societies in the country.

Contributions to national scientific development

During the event, Dr. Puello Galarcio was also invited to participate as a reviewer in the preparation of an academic document on vaccination in patients at cardiovascular risk, an initiative led by the Association for the Prevention and Control of Cardiovascular Diseases.
