The joint committee for occupational safety and health is a body for the promotion and monitoring of occupational safety and health rules and regulations in the institution, through promotion, information and dissemination activities, COPASST must ensure that the risks of occupational diseases and accidents are reduced to the minimum possible.
FUNCTIONS
Propose to the management of the company or work establishment the adoption of measures and the development of activities to ensure and maintain health in workplaces and work environments.
Propose and participate in occupational health training activities for workers, supervisors and managers of the company or work establishment.
Collaborate with officials of governmental occupational health entities in the activities they carry out in the company and receive the corresponding reports in their own right.
To oversee the development of the activities in the area of medicine, hygiene and industrial safety to be carried out by the company in accordance with the Regulation of Industrial Hygiene and Safety and the regulations in force, and to promote their dissemination and observance.
Collaborate in the analysis of the causes of occupational accidents and diseases and propose to the employer the necessary corrective measures to prevent their occurrence. Evaluate the programs that have been carried out.
Periodically visit workplaces and inspect environments, machines, equipment, devices and operations performed by workers in each area or section of the company and inform the employer about the existence of risk factors and suggest corrective and control measures.
To study and consider the suggestions presented by the workers, in matters of medicine, hygiene and industrial safety.
Serve as a coordinating body between the employer and the workers in the solution of problems related to occupational health. To process workers' claims related to occupational health.
Periodically ask the company for reports on accidents and occupational diseases in order to comply with the provisions of this resolution.
To elect the secretary of the Committee.
Maintain a file of the minutes of each meeting and other activities carried out, which shall be available at any time to the employer, the workers and the competent authorities.
