In UNINAVARRA's dynamic environment, it is crucial to integrate academic excellence with environmental responsibility. The Integrated Waste Management Program becomes a fundamental element to promote sustainable practices and maximize efficiency in the use of resources.

The implementation of the Integrated Waste Management Program allows us to assume a proactive role in protecting the environment. By adopting strategies to reduce, reuse and recycle the waste generated, UNINAVARRA contributes significantly to the conservation of natural resources and the reduction of environmental pollution.

The Integral Waste Management Program promotes environmental awareness and social responsibility in the academic-administrative community. By educating students, faculty and administrative personnel about the importance of proper waste separation and responsible waste management.

UNINAVARRA implements the color code regulated in Resolution 2189 of 2019 in order to comply with environmental regulations. The application of the color code (white, black and green) is reflected in the Integrated Waste and Waste Management Program (PGIRD).

Hazardous waste management

A specialized external manager treated 567.4 kilograms of hazardous biological and chemical waste, in strict compliance with environmental regulations and the Institution's Integrated Waste Management Program (PGIRD).

Participation in "WEEE" collection days opitaton

The Institution serves as a collection point for the reception of waste electrical and electronic equipment during the "Opitatón" days organized by the Secretariat of the Environment. These days were held in May and November 2023.

In November, a total of 19.2 kg of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) from UNINAVARRA was delivered. In addition, 39.3 kg of luminaries and 12.2 kg of batteries were delivered. These efforts demonstrate the Institution's ongoing commitment to improving its solid waste management, its care for the environment and its focus on sustainability.

The Fundación Universitaria Navarra - UNINAVARRA contributed to the commemoration of World Bird Day by designing a model of the Pisingo Duck, which they called NAVASINGO. This model was created by professors of the institution using recyclable materials.

A radiography of the NAVASINGO model was made to promote the conservation of bird species. The outstanding participation of UNINAVARRA won second place, which contributes to the project of the Network of Children Birdwatchers of Huila.

Environmental education Integrated waste management at UNINAVARRA

Three training and sensitization sessions have been held focused on different lines of integrated solid waste management. These were as follows:

  • Solid waste training for contractors.
  • Hazardous solid waste training.
  • Waste management training for general services personnel.

Waste management at Ciudad Universitaria Navarra

In order to facilitate the disposal of solid waste generated by UNINAVARRA at the Ciudad Universitaria Navarra Uninavarra headquarters, a fixed container was obtained from Ciudad Limpia S.A. E.S.P., thus obtaining a waste collection point, something that was not available at the headquarters.

Commemoration of International Recycling Day

On May 17, in commemoration of International Recycling Day, the "Flying for Sustainability" contest was held in conjunction with the Environmental Engineering program, Social Projection and the Peace Office. Fifty-eight students from the environmental elective courses participated.

The activity consisted of making representative birds with usable and/or recyclable materials. These were: Paper, cardboard, plastic, etc. First and second place were awarded with vouchers to eat at the restaurant "La Granja Burger". The results were as follows:

Dumping control (liquid waste)

To ensure compliance with environmental regulations and rectify that UNINAVARRA does not discharge NON-domestic or industrial water, a request was made to the competent authority (Empresas Públicas de Neiva - LAS CEIBAS E.S.P).
A technical visit was made by the competent entity and the certificate was obtained:

FORMALDEHYDE extraction

As a measure to mitigate environmental damage caused by chemical leaks and/or spills, formaldehyde contained in a pool-type structure located in the corpse storage area was extracted. This contributes to the Institution's waste management and reduces our environmental impact.

Management of Construction and Demolition Waste (CDW)

The management of CDW comes from remodeling activities of the Institution's facilities, for which the contractors must ensure proper management. However, UNINAVARRA contributes in the supervision to achieve a correct final disposal.

Management of usable waste

A total of 295.65 kg of usable waste was delivered, which for 2023 will be classified as follows: Paper, Cardboard, Glass, Newspaper, Plastic and Ordinary or Inert. This waste is delivered to the external manager RECUPERAR NEIVA S.A., which is responsible for its proper separation, classification and delivery to organizations that make use of this type of waste.

Hazardous waste management

A total of 5484 kg of hazardous waste was delivered. These are classified as follows for 2023: Biosanitary, Anatomopathological, Cortopunzantes, Corrosive Chemicals, Reagents, Explosive, Toxic, Flammable. These wastes are delivered to the external manager INCIHUILA S.A.S.S. E.S.P., which is in charge of inactivating them and giving them the appropriate final disposal.
